Day 1 – Lake Manyara National Park: You’ll be met by a professional driver and guide at your lodge in Arusha early in the morning to prepare you for an amazing four days in the Tanzanian back-country. Your first day on private safari – Manyara National Park! Upon arrival, you will enjoy a morning of game viewing that includes Manyara’s famous prides of tree climbing lion. The park also boasts rich ground water forest, lakeside grassland and an abundant variety of trees and shrubs. The lake features numerous avian species, including flamingo, pelican, stork and a variety of shorebirds. During the game drive, the view across Manyara’s expansive savannas leaves one with a sense of seclusion. This is the romantic setting that provided the backdrop to the the story and film that would become “Out of Africa.” We’ll depart early in the evening for lodging and dinner at the well appointed Kirurumu Manyara Lodge. Enjoy the excellent meals and service in the ambiance of the sun setting on the plains of Tanzania.
Day 2 – Serengeti National Park: You’re invited to enjoy an ethno-botanical walk escorted by a local Maasai to learn about local indigenous culture before the day begins. After breakfast, we’ll venture into the endless plains of the Serengeti, home to the highest density of wildlife in the world, as well as unrivaled natural beauty, diversity and scientific value. Our afternoon is spent game viewing in the central Serengeti plains with picnic lunches en route. In the early evening, we’ll travel to the elegant Serengeti Serena Lodge for an overnight and well deserved Tanzanian cuisine.
Day 3 – Serengeti National Park / Ngorongoro Crater: We’ll spend a full day game viewing in the central Seronera plains and surrounding area in search of migratory and non-migratory animals. The most renowned wildlife sanctuary in the world, the landscape is characterized by vast stretches of open plains, punctuated by kopjes, rock formations that have survived from the Pre-Cambrian period and open woodlands. By mid-afternoon we’ll journey to Ngorongoro Crater, stopping by the Olduvai Gorge for a brief historical tour. Our late afternoon drive to Ngorongoro will end with a delicious evening dinner and comfortable overnight at the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.
Day 4 – Ngorongoro Crater: After breakfast, we’ll travel for our descent into the crater floor and spend a remarkable day enjoying the wildlife and landscape in one of the most beautiful places in Africa – the 2000-foot deep, 10 mile wide Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll view some of the world’s largest elephant herds, large prides of lion, and massive herds of plains animals like zebra and wildebeest. The crater is the last place in Africa where free-ranging black rhino can still be viewed. Departing the park in the late afternoon, we’ll return to your lodge in Arusha in time for evening meals.
